Parts of the Flower

Welcome to my 2nd/3rd grade website.
 
This website is intended to help student identify the different parts of a flower.

This site is for teachers, parents, and students.

-Make sure to complete your daily homework and take a look at the Question of the day.

-There will be a quiz on the different plant parts at the end of the week.

-Homework has been posted for the entire week for the students to complete.  Along with the homework assignment the students are encouraged to read the Question of the day.

-There are helpful links that may help you assist your child on the website. (Go to "Links for parents/teachers")

-Read pages 10 and 11 from "All about Plants" booklet.
-Read Chapter 1 pages 2-4 on your "All About Science" book.
-Read article about flower parts from handout handed out in class.
-Read "Plants that eat insects" <-This book can be found in the library
-Read "First Natures Flowers" <- This book can be found in the library

Homework for the Week:
 
Day 1:
-Print out and complete activity 1 and 2 on this website.
Day 2
-Bring to class a flower (any kind, possibly from your yard), so that we all can look at the flower together.
Day 3:
-Bring to class 3 pictures of flower parts that your interested in. For each flower part explain what they do or what it is for.
Day 4:
-Print out and complete activity 3 and 4 on this website.
Day 5:
-Right down each flower part and its definition. Draw each part and label them.

Question of the Day!
 
Day 1:
Why do you think plants make seeds?
 
Answer-So that the plant is able to reproduce.
 
Day 2:
What does the stem do for the plant?
 
Answer-The stem carries water and nutrients to the roots and leaves. It also supports the plant allowing the leaves to reach the sunlight.
 
Day 3:
What is the pistil made up of?
Answer-The pistil is made up of the stigma, style, and ovary.
 
Day 4:
What is the stamen made up of?
Answer-The stamen is made up of the anther and the filament.
